Never had them, never seen them, never heard of them, until recently. I was on a field trip at my local Publix Supermarket. Yes, a field trip. I wasn’t in need of any groceries, but my sister-in-law was; she doesn’t drive. Not wanting to make her feel rushed, I left my sister-in-law to hunt and gather at her own pace while I meandered.
People generally have a shopping routine. They remain loyal to the products they use and repurchase them every week. Customers know where their favorite items reside in each aisle and go straight for them, but when you don’t need groceries and you’re waiting for someone to complete their shopping, you have time to veer from the routine.
I began to wander as though I were window shopping and I found my way to the intriguing imported foods section. Publix offers chocolate bars from England and Australia, sodas from the Caribbean, crackers from Canada, and, among many other interesting treats, Peanut Butter Puffs from Israel.
People don’t often try things that are foreign to them. It’s a risk. There is a repulsion to the thought of biting into something that may be horrid and vile and must be erased immediately by the closest available beverage. Grand adventurer that I am, I took a chance and purchased the puffs; they were less than three bucks. My adventurous attitude waned as the puffs sat on my counter for a week. I needed the right moment to experience a puff of peanut butter.
The right moment arrived when my stepson began to snoop around our snack stash. He saw the bag and, like me, was intrigued by the idea of a crunchy peanut butter puff. He didn’t spend another moment contemplating the potential of the puffs, he opened the bag and popped one immediately. Soon we were both popping puffs.
Bamba Peanut Butter Puffs have the appearance of cheese puffs, but are more ecru than orange. My stepson and I crunched and we munched and we fell in love with Bamba Peanut Butter Puffs. They have a delectable peanut butter flavor accompanied by a lovely peanutty aroma, and the fact that the puffs are creamy and melt in your mouth does not take away from the satisfying crunch that you get when you bite into them.
So, peanut butter fans, next time you are rushing through your routine at Publix, take a moment to veer to the imported food aisle and pick up a pack of Peanut Butter Puffs– you’ll be in for a memorable munch.
